ROGATION DAY AT ST. DAVID'S
Beating the Bounds

May 6 @ Noon - meet in the Narthex

Rogation is an ancient church practice of seeking blessing for a community and its sustenance (the word "Rogation" comes from the Latin Rogare, meaning "to ask"). Rogation Days are the 3 days preceding Ascension Day and are intended for asking God's blessing on agriculture and industry.

Since medieval days there has been a tradition of "beating the bounds" – walking together in procession around the boundary of property, praying for God's blessing upon crops, the well-being of the land, and sharing hope in God's ability to nourish and sustain life. We will keep with this tradition with a procession on the land on which our congregation resides.

Prayer for the Human Family

O God, you made us in your own image and redeemed us through Jesus your Son: Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in harmony around your heavenly throne; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Shalom and Salaam, let us stand in prayerful solidarity
with the people of the Holy Land.

Mary of Nazareth, who is both Jewish and Palestinian, extend your mantle of mercy over all the peoples of the Holy Land -- Jews, Muslims, Christians, Palestinians, Israelis, migrants, and refugees.

Mother of the Messiah, show us how to be instruments of healing and peace in the midst of war, occupation, terrorism, and divisions. Give us an embracing love for all in the Holy Land, especially hostages, innocent victims, the homeless, and the dying. We pray this in the name of Jesus, the Prince of Peace.
