Time Travel

Saturday, November 5 – 3:00-4:30 pm

What do an Arab-American (Fairouz, born 1985), an American (Glass, born 1937), and an Austrian (Schubert, born 1797) have in common? Music of course! Take a trip back through time as we discuss and perform music that spans 185 years!

Huldra vs. Huldah

Sunday, March 4 – 1:00-4:30 pm

A Huldra is a forest spirit from Norwegian folk lore. Norwegian composer, Edvard Grieg was inspired to set the folk lore based poetry of Henrik Ibsen to song. Grieg composed six songs for voice and piano. He borrowed from these songs to create his one and only string quartet in g minor. Huldah, Erika, Valerie, and Ruth will perform this epic string quartet for your enjoyment along with Haydn Op. 2 no. 5 and Beethoven’s Grosse Fugue.

From Bach to Bartok

Friday, April 13 – 7:00-8:30 pm

We finish off our season with selections from Bach’s Art of Fugue, Schulhoff’s 5 Pieces for String Quartet and Bartok’s incredible String Quartet No. 2. Bartok’s quartets are some of the most difficult pieces of chamber music ever written. What a way to end an amazing season!
