YOUTH & CHILDREN

St David’s has always worked to share our religious beliefs with our youth and children. We’ve done through spiritual formation, activities, and worship services tailored to the age of the child. Here are some of the current programs and activities at St. David’s.

Nursery

Our nursery is staffed with a professional childcare worker who has been ministering in nurseries for over 20 years. She is trained to work with special needs students and also trains our volunteers in how to work with all kinds and ages of children. The nursery is staffed during our 9:30am service and during the educational hour which follows the 9:30 service.

Children’s Chapel

We offer a Children’s Chapel for our young people during the 9:30 worship service. Early in the service we process out as the Children follow a young Crucifer to the Children’s Chapel which is in the Undercroft. Adult leaders and children gather together, proclaim God’s word, respond to the readings, and confess our sins and prayers. Then we return to the nave in time to participate in Communion.

Christian Education Curriculum

Pre Kindergarten, Kindergarten and First Grader’s follow the Godly Play curriculum which is rooted in the Montessori tradition. Godly Play’s approach to working with children is to support, challenge, nourish and help guide them in their spiritual quest. Our teachers are trained and certified by the Godly Play program.

Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Graders use All Things New – which is a great curriculum where they hear and discuss stories from the Bible. Our teachers are trained and supported throughout the year and would encourage any interested parent to come and observe what takes place during class.

Grades 6, 7, and 8 meet on Wednesday nights in the youth room from 6:30 till 8:00pm. The program is called Project 678 and we gather, play games and discuss our nightly themes.

Grades 9, 10, 11, and 12th grade meets on Sunday evenings from 6:30 till 8:00. We start off our meetings with dinner provided by parents in the Undercroft. Then we move to the youth room for check-ins and conversations around our themes.

Additional Activities

Vacation Bible School

On the last week of July we offer Vacation Bible School for students from kindergarten through 4th grade. We join with two other western suburb Episcopal churches to create four fun mornings of music, education and spiritual formation

St. David’s Mission Trip

Over the past few years, many of our senior high school students have spent a week during the summer on a group mission trip. Their work has been directed at helping the needy in a variety of cities including Seattle, Vancouver, Boston, Chicago, and Cass Lake. The trips have been well supported by the parish and have included as many as 25 students and adult chaperones.
